Over the last few years Brad at SHOfast has really screwed alot of people. His name isn't worth crap in the sho community any more. I wouldn't take my car anywhere near him. See if you can meet up with Kirk somewhere this year nad get the cams welded then. I wouldn't trust anyone but Kirk or Doug to weld my cams. There have been a few issues with other 'recommended' cam welders whose welds have failed recently. There should be documentation of the welds failing at the v8 site somewhere. People didn't want to name names probably for legal reasons therefore.. I know who didn't perform the work and has great reputations for quality and Kirk is at the top for cams and Doug is at the top for tranny.

I guess I should have specified, for general SHO work, check with Cincy SHO to see if they know of a good local shop. Working on cams is something to be trusted to less than 50 people total in the entire country.

While Kirk is the pre-eminent SHO cams guy, you really only need a good enginre welder. Like I said, though, probably fewer than 50 decent ones in the country. will take some serious legwork to hunt down someone nearby that can do the job, but will save you from driving all over the place to catch up with Kirk, if you simply cannot meet up with him.

As has been stated, getting the cams welded is something that should be on your top-burner. While a cam may never fail on you, if one does, you will lose, at a minimum, one piston and rod, and a head. Quite often, the block or crank is damaged as well, which leaves you with having to replace the whole thing. Consider it a one-time fee of $700 against a $3500 or so motor replacement.

Only partially true. There are specific points and areas that can be welded, some less knowledgable people have welded all the way around the sprocket. You must also weld the nut to the cam,if you know WHERE to weld, how much to add,and what to remove afterwards, then yes,any good welder can do the job.Knowing exactly what to do upfront is the key.I've even seen some welds by the "good" places that look horrid,Kirk really is the best man for the job.

As for Brad,i haven't seen or heard from him in years.Too bad,he has the income for the busness but not the ambition i suppose.
My SHO had more power in nitrous than my Honda has in total.

JT - a good engine welder is going to be able to look at the cams and know what can and cannot be done. They are familier with performing work that does not throw specs out of order, or fatigue the part. I am not talking about a mom-and-pop general welder that happens to work on engines. You are looking for the guys that work in custom engine shops that all the racers swear by, the guys that make double to triple what the average welder clears.

Not everyone can make it to Kirk, this is why I presented the information. Sure, Kirk would be the best route, even if he were not a world-class welder (as his prices reflect ;) . I would hate for this new SHO owner to put off and put off getting this work done until the engine was ruined, just because she was waiting to catch Kirk.

Ed Reed to Miss the Start of Regular Season

Postby yangya148 » Thu Jul 22, 2010 4:33 am

Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed is recovering from offseason hip surgery and he is expected to be placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list, missing the first six games of the season.

Reed had estimated in a recent radio interview he was only 35 percent healthy. He said Tuesday his rehab is a slow process. With training camp drawing near, the chances of Reed landing on the PUP list increased.

Reed, 31, missed four games during December because of a variety of injuries, including problems with his neck, hip and groin.

"I'm going to get out there when I feel good. I can't give you a date. I don't know," Reed said.

Ravens veterans are schedule to report to training camp on July 28. But it seems that Ed Reed is not healthy enough to join the camp on time. And it is likely that the Ravens will miss him at the beginning of the season.

Once Ed Reed is well and ready, he will be back. At this moment, he should focus on reconstructing his whole hip.
