Question about the JBL sound system

Postby Gateway » Tue Mar 16, 2010 8:35 pm

My girlfriend keeps bitching at me about her CD player not working.. and the radio sounds real weak... and to be honest I'm fed up of hearing about how my car sounds and runs better then hers....

Car:
1993 SHO

Problem:

When I first met her the CD player/radio worked fine.. but when she would hit bumps in the road the back speakers and to be precise I believe it was the left hand side one, it would "crackle" Well one day the radio quit working all together.. It would come on but no sound.. I went out one day and pulled the radio out.. and she has sound again.. but it's real low when the car first starts but then gets a little louder.. but not as loud as it should be. The back speakers still "crackle" and it appears as if there is no power to the CD player it won't come on at all... after it stopped working you could put a CD in it.. but you never heard anything.

I did test something today though with the sound... I put a tape in the tape-deck and I hate it to say it... but NYSNC (It was the only tape I could fine! lol) sounded better then my setup in my car.. and there was no crackle in the rear speakers.. Is the Unit bad? and where is the AMP located... I believe it's in the trunk.. but I'm not sure..

That sounds like either a short in the wiring somewhere either behind your head unit, or behind the rear seat where the amps are. However I would put more money on it being the jbl amp crapping out. I bypassed my amp and just got an atermarket alpine unit with a good amount of power built in, fixed alot of my issues. If you pop the trunk and look whats mounted to the rear seat you will see where the amps are. Hope that helps.
